In our family run Hummel&Hummel Schuhmanufaktur JW.Customs had the opportunity to realize a customized KangaROOS shoe on the silhouette of his choice.
JW.customs is one of the most famous custom product design artists in Germany with over 50 thousand followers on Instagram(@jw.customs).
He took inspiration from Asian street culture and created a pair of shoes that combine preppy style with an Asian streetculture twist.
This project used the newly introduced"PreppyROOS" silhouette and added a new concept.
For this pair, he meticulously made a patchwork pattern from old and hand-dyed Chinese batik fabric scraps and used a variety of sewing techniques. These intricate patterns were later incorporated into the toebox and tongue area of the shoe.
He also opted for suede in two shades of gray, which he first stitched and then accented with contrasting white zigzag stitching.
The Vibram Morflex sole was individually hand-dyed and given a used look on the outsole to recapture the vintage aesthetic.
To increase comfort, the tongue and upper area is extra padded. As a decorative touch, Italian Cracked Leather was chosen for the tassels to create an eye-catching contrast. The shoes were finalized with grey flat laces.
In summary, this project fuses the elegance of preppy style with the vibrancy of Asian street culture. The result is a unique 1/1 pair that celebrates creativity and German craftsmanship.
